ad space (for tip-ons) Explanation: A Trägerinserat is ad space that is used for a tip-on card, a product sample, or other custom inserts (it "carries" or holds the tip-on, if you will). See Page 134 of "Direct Marketing in Practice" for information about tip-ons: http://books.google.com/books?id=uGTbU_wyLMUC&pg=PA134&lpg=P... Most magazines require that you purchase a full page of ad space in order to use a tip-on (regardless of its size). In the example below, the option is given to purchase a full page or half page of ad space or, for a higher price, to even have a tip-on placed somewhere in the publication without preparing ad space to serve as the backing for the tip-on ("ohne Trägerinserat"). www.tele.at/tv_dienste/daten/static/tele/download/tele_tari... Tipp-On-Card (mit 1/1, 1/2 oder ohne Trägerinserat): A6,148 x 105 mm. Weitere Formate auf Anfrage. Postkarte mit Trägerinserat 37,– / 1.000 Stk. (zzgl. Inserat) Postkarte ohne Trägerinserat 44,40 / 1.000 Stk. Similarly, see Page 8 of the print media guidelines for Diva, where they require a full-page, four-color ad in order to be able to use tip-on cards and sachets: www.diva-online.at/export/sites/diva/service/DIVA_MEDIAKIT_... TOC-Karten & Sachets nur inklusive 1/1, 4c Trägerinserat Here are some examples of how a Trägerinserat can be used and set up: http://www.specialtiesgraphics.com/content.php?parentID=5&ch... As for the English equivalent, the following businesses use the term "backing page" (which sounds sensible enough, though this term is certainly not exclusive to this context and might be misunderstood to mean the "back" page of a publication). Of course, they could also be referring to the fact that tip-ons have to be placed on the front/back of a signature in a larger print job (like a magazine). www.adcentre.com.au/media/565320/latest 16 feb 09tsmtam_rat... www.timeinc.com.au/assets/document/WHO_media kit final i.pd... http://www.visionmonday.com/VM_MediaGuide/print.html Other than that, you really just tend to see references to the tip-on itself, rather than an actual name of the ad space that will be used for mounting it: www.linuxnewmedia.de/downloads/LMI_Mediadaten.pdf "Tip-Ons may be postcards, booklets, CD-ROMs or similar attachments on ad pages. They may only be booked in connection with Full Page or Double Page formats and are only available for full circulation." https://remagazine.cooperative.com/advertise/mediakit/advert... "Tip-ons require the purchase of a full page ad so the tip-on they can be glued to the ad." So, only medium confidence level because I can't find a neat and tidy, standardized term for this. Hope this helps, anyway! |

Reference: carrier advertisement Reference information: Liesl's explanation and references are excellent. These links are simply to show that the term "carrier advertisement" is sometimes used, although, as far as I can tell, exclusively in material translated from German or originating from German-speaking countries. Tip-on-cards are glued to a carrier advertisement (min. format 1/1p., prices see rates on page 4). Tip-on-cards are postcards, empty envelopes or other rectangular unfolded printed matter. Rates E 48 per 1,000 copies Positioning of the tip-on-card on the carrier ad: (page 6) http://www.mare-tv.de/mare/pdf/preisliste_08_GB.pdf Glued inserts are products supplied ready for processing and gummed to a carrier ad in such a way that they can be easily removed and used by interested readers.
