German to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Advertising / Public Relations / Outdoor advertising
German term or phrase: Folie
I'm translating a document for an outdoor advertising company. The document is information for the clients - the people who take out the ads which you see on the sides or in the windows of buses and trains. These ads are printed on self-adhesive "Folie(n)" and I'm not sure which word is the best translation in English - "foil(s)" or "film(s)"? It's basically thick sticky-backed plastic - I've often seen them in the tram and when they're not stuck down properly you get air bubbles which are so tempting to squish! ;)

Does anyone have an idea or maybe a different suggestion?

Thanks for your help! =)

Reine Überlegung (keine Garantie) - transparency = Durchscheinbild (in seiner einfachsten Bedeutung)

Explanation:
'self-adhesive films' would be my choice, as e.g. here -> http://images.google.de/images?hl=de&source=hp&q=self-adhesi...

film

Explanation:
Sticky-backed or adhesive-backed film would be what I would use, although IMO sticky-backed plastic would also be a valid alternative

agree  Goldcoaster: I would have tended more toward transparency, but references and Jonathan's comment are valid arguments

agree  orla: wouldnt have gone for this myself because I've never heard of it but agree with Goldcoaster - more neutral would be adhesive transparent vinyl sheets/window film
8 hrs

agree  ElliCom: they actually used to be called foils in Switzerland, having worked with this - the material is termed a film but the item is a decal

Explanation:
... ergibt eindeutig mehr matches bei google.co.uk. Die Verwendung von Film ergibt sich nach dem "googeln" als gebräuchlicher.
