German to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Advertising / Public Relations
German term or phrase: ideelle Werbung
"Werbung zur Unterstützung einer Sache oder Idee, die gegen Entgelt oder eine ähnliche Gegenleistung verbreitet wird (ideelle Werbung)."

Ich habe schon "social advertising" oder "charitable advertising" überlegt, aber scheint nicht ganz damit übereinzustimmen.
Danke für jede Hilfe!

agree  philgoddard: Two good ideas. I'd be tempted to leave out all the stuff about Entgelt, or say "paid-for".

agree  Paul Skidmore: if Bettina's text is the legislation Alison mentions below in the reference section this suggestion is good because it distinguishes the issue from advertising for goods and services

I must admit I don't understand the source term very well on the basis of the source text/context provided so far, but this could be what is meant.

Difference between "advocacy advertising" and "cause-related advertising"

Advocacy Advertising: Attempts to establish an organization’s position on important social, political, or environmental issues. Typically these issues are directly relevant to the product or service the firm provides. For example, Budweiser frequently runs ads that highlight the dangers of drinking and driving, to show their opposition and establish themselves as a responsible company.

Cause-related Advertising: Advertising that features a firm’s affiliation with an important social cause and takes place as part of a cause-related marketing effort. The idea behind this is that firms donate money to a non-profit organization in exchange for using that company’s name in a promotional campaign. For example, Post Cereal had spent substantial funds advertising the donations of food they make to various charities in the U.S. that work to feed the hungry.

Reference information:
The wording used appears to be lifted from legal texts. I hope the following references are helpful.

40.
Werbung: jede Äußerung bei der Ausübung eines Handels, Gewerbes, Handwerks oder freien Berufs, die in Fernsehprogrammen vom Anbieter (Fernsehwerbung) oder als Bestandteil eines audiovisuellen Mediendienstes auf Abruf vom Anbieter entweder gegen Entgelt oder eine ähnliche Gegenleistung oder als Eigenwerbung gesendet oder bereitgestellt wird, mit dem Ziel, den Absatz von Waren oder die Erbringung von Dienstleistungen, einschließlich unbeweglicher Sachen, Rechte und Verpflichtungen, gegen Entgelt zu fördern. Werbung umfasst weiters jede Äußerung zur Unterstützung einer Sache oder Idee, die gegen Entgelt oder eine ähnliche Gegenleistung verbreitet wird (ideelle Werbung);

f. "Werbung" jede öffentliche Äußerung zur Förderung des Verkaufs, des Kaufs oder der Miete oder Pacht eines Erzeugnisses oder einer Dienstleistung, zur Unterstützung einer Sache oder Idee oder zur Erzielung einer anderen vom Werbetreibenden gewünschten Wirkung, wofür dem Werbetreibenden gegen Bezahlung oder eine ähnliche Gegenleistung Sendezeit zur Verfügung gestellt wird;
f. "Advertisement" means any public announcement intended to promote the sale, purchase or rental of a product or service, to advance a cause or idea or to bring about some other effect desired by the advertiser, for which transmission time has been given to the advertiser for remuneration or similar consideration;

I wonder if public service advertising or public interest advertising may be appropriate here, see, e.g.:

Public service advertising
The advertising techniques used to promote commercial goods and services can be used to inform, educate and motivate the public about non-commercial issues, such as HIV/AIDS, political ideology, energy conservation and deforestation.
Public service advertising, non-commercial advertising, public interest advertising, cause marketing, and social marketing are different terms for (or aspects of) the use of sophisticated advertising and marketing communications techniques (generally associated with commercial enterprise) on behalf of non-commercial, public interest issues and initiatives.
