German term or phrase: Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden
This is the motto of an international football congress to be held in Germany. Is there a way of saying it in English that doesn't sound convoluted? MT.

Germany 2006: a time to make friends
Explanation:
I know this doesn't look like a translation, but it appears to be the way that the organisers of 2006 World Cup render their official slogan in English:

Franz Beckenbauer, as quoted on World Cup 2006 site: "remembering as we proceed, the watchwords in the official 2006 FIFA World Cup™ slogan: Germany 2006: a time to make friends."

agree  writeaway: this is absolutely the official slogan. like it or not!!!

agree  Kim Metzger: A time to meet friends would work nicely, but as you say, to make friends is the official slogan.

neutral  writeaway: not criticising your suggestion, but there is already an official one: A time to make friends. Changing it for a proz question is senseless imho

neutral  writeaway: They already have an official slogan (not great but it's what they have): A time to make friends/congress is Asker's terminology-don't see how there can be 2 of these things :-)
30 mins
-> You could be right but: The official slogan refers to the World Cup 2006. Here, it refers to a football congress, no World Cup mentioned.

neutral  Ian M-H: We don't know if they're connected (perhaps martineh does know), but for some reason the congress organiser is using the World Cup slogan. So I'd say the translator should use the official English version of the same slogan.

Not for points, but backing Ian

Explanation:
They have an official slogan. Is it any good? Many don't think so, but it is what they have. Why "invent" another one just for a Kudoz question? It's really official-TM and all....
