But whatever the case, "military-operated" seems a good rendering.
"operated for military purposes", whereas that isn't how I understand "military-operated". I guess military-operated could be either civilian equipment used by the military for military purposes or for such purposes as you suggest though, Clive.
I also like Alison's suggestion. In certain operations (e.g. humanitarian crises and disaster relief) the military may operate civil transport such as trucks, earth-moving equipment, vessels, helicopters, etc.
