German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Aerospace / Aviation / Space / planes | | German term or phrase: Flugzeugstaffel | The heading of an article for a corporate magazine:
"Neue Flugzeugstaffel komplett"
Initially my inclination was to use "fleet" - but the article itself goes on to say "Die äußerst gräuscharmen Flugzeuge gehören zu neuen Flotte".
It would thus appear the Flugzeugstaffel is a part of the fleet. What would you call this in English?? |

| | fleet | Explanation: I think your original impulse is perfectly fine.
"Staffel" is by origin a military term that is translated as "echelon". But in commercial terms it is the airline fleet and both Flugzeugstaffel and Flotte are one and the same, IMO. The only differentiations made within the fleets of commerical airlines is usually between airplanes that can fly internation routes and short-range planes. There's no refernce here in your context. |

| Grading comment Thank you all for your time and effort! Because this is not a military context I decided to go with Alexander's suggestion and just simply use fleet. I am not going to enter anything in the glossary here because all of the answers could be correct depending on the context. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
