See reference link for image and short explaination of "Kartoffeldurchwuchs". When potatoes have been harvested but some were left in the ground, these will sprout in spring. This is generally unwanted because the farmer may have other plans for the plot that year (a different type of potatoes or a different plant species alltogether).
