German term or phrase: Rundkronenbäume
"Eine solide Verarbeitung, welche höchsten Qualitätsanforderungen entspricht, sowie die durchdachte Baukastenkonstruktion ermöglicht die Auswahl zwischen verschiedenen Gebläsegrößen, Anhängersystemen, Regelarmaturen, Düsen und somit eine optimale Abstimmung auf den jeweiligen Einsatzbereich (Engpflanzungen, Weinbau, Beetpflanzungen und hohe Rundkronenbäume)."

There are virtually no hits for Rundkronenbaum or Rundkronenbäume, and what one or two hits there were provided no enlightenment whatsoever. Obiovusly, it's a tree, but beyond that, I have not got a single clue what this word means. Hope someone here has a better idea than I do. TIA and all that.

round-crown trees
Explanation:
I don't see why you shouldn't use the literal translation - it only a few googles, but then as you have already noted there aren't many for the German word either.

For example, this website
http://www.roseville.ca.us/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?Blo...
describes a number of trees as "round-crown trees" (as distinct from other types such as upright, pyramidal, wide spreading).

The phrase "trees with rounded crowns" gets 42,700 Google hits, so I guess that's what it must be. Thanks Armorel, but also thanks to Cilian for putting me on the "rounded crown" track. And thanks to everyone else who contributed - all assistance much appreciated.

decurrent trees

Explanation:
Trees either have a decurrent branching habit (rounded crown) or an excurrent branching habit (cone-shaped crown).

Example sentence(s):
  • "Shapes of crowns are highly variable. The major types for trees are the excurrent branching habit resulting in conoid shapes and decurrent (deliquescent) branching habit, resulting in round shapes."
  • "A decurrent tree has a weak central leader, which allows lateral branches to grow as quickly as the terminal shoot on the leader. These trees have more rounded outlines because there are many more branched stems ..."
