We have two compost heaps, as is the usual practice. One old, one "new", changed annually. the old compost is turned over once before being spread on the garden in the Fall. The "new" compost ist turned over twice in the year before being tranferred to the "old" compost heap, also in the Fall,, or being left where it is. Turning over is vital to insure enough oxygen. the best answer would be a combination of the two: shifting (umsetzen) and turning (wenden). "Over" is optional in my opinion, since compost doesn't drive, walk or take any form of tranportation until it hits the wheelbarrow. |
