German to English translations [PRO] Science - Archaeology / Roman villa | | German term or phrase: Wagenremise | From a document discussing the construction of a Roman villa:
----
Den Bereich des Herrenhauses verläßt man durch die Toröffnung in der Wagenremise (23). Löcher in der steinernen Schwelle zeigen die Plätze von Türangel und Riegel.
----
Basically the villa's equivalent of a modern 'garage', this is a large, stone-built room in the main building, connecting to the main rooms, and separated from the stable by an enclosed corridor and a walled garden.
It seems to me to be rather too substantial a part of the building to be called a "wagon shed", and there is nothing to indicate that it wasn't used for chariots etc. as well as 'wagons'.
Thanks in advance for your ideas.
