Im Westen befand sich ein Abschnittswall aus Basaltsteinen mit eingelagerten Lehmschichten, dem ein Graben vorgelagert war.
Im Süden war der Zugang zum 90 ha großen Oppidum durch einen Abschnittswall mit Tangentialtor befestigt.

Ein Abschnittswall (auch Abschnittsbefestigung) ist eine Befestigung, die den zu verteidigenden Bereich nicht völlig umschließt, sondern nur an besonders exponierten Stellen errichtet wurde [1]. Solche Anlagen sind auch heute noch obertägig enthalten und finden sich an Bergspornen, Flusschleifen (zum Beispiel das Oppidum von Altenburg-Rheinau) und an steilen Meeresküsten (zum Beispiel das eisenzeitliche Penchateau in französischen Département Loire-Atlantique).

At southeastern corner of the A structure, east, south and northern walls of the
room, called as Place 2, were explored. Among them, eastern wall (96 cm in width and
4.30 m in length) and southern wall (96 cm in width) belong to outer walls of the
structure and the wall at north (52 cm in width and 4.40 m in length) is a thin sectional
wall. Stone foundation at southwestern corner of rectangular shaped Place 2 is
completely destroyed by late period burials.

Irene Phase occupation at the Kenan Field Site seems to have
occurred during the earliest time of the phase and is denoted by a mixture of Savannah and Irene Phase ceramic traits. This seemingly early Irene Phase component was associated with structural remains and shell middens. The structures consisted of a small, round house located near the corner of a large sectional-wall trench building that was initially thought to be a palisade. Limited additional investigation proved the construction to be a closed structure rather than a palisade and Mission Period ceramics were found along with Irene Phase pottery.

Yes, I see this as a sectional rampart/fortification i.e. it is there in parts not fully encompassing the site.

Asker: From the pictures in the German references, this appears to be an external rampart and I had already considered this as a translation. However, your English texts refer to walls of buildings which a little unsettling.
