German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Architecture
German term or phrase: publikumsaffin
From a document announcing an architectural competition for the construction of a building to be shared between two different libraries. After listing the areas that will be allocated to each of them, the document says:

"Die unterschiedlichen Nutzungen sollen unter Ausschöpfung von Synergien im Bereich publikumsaffiner Räume eigenständig betrieben werden können".

Has anyone got any ideas what "publikumsaffiner" means here?

Thanks in advance!

English translation:rooms used by/open to/access by the public
Explanation:
I would suggest something like the above. I think Phil is right and that it does simply refer to "public" but as these are libraries you could qualify the public in some way. Some rooms will be open to the public, some won't and some might be at specific times/on specific occasions.

Explanation:
The Publikum of libraries (at least in this neighborhood) is known as patrons, users or readers. "User friendly" is not for software only.
