Nachtschattengewächs 01:43 Aug 20, 2011
Has a second and figurative meaning in German: Something or someone that thrives in the darkness. Which is why Nachtschattengewächs is often used as a synonym for a night owl, someone who is active at night and especially someone who focuses his nightly activities on dark and murky doings. To me, this term in this context and in regard to Nazi architecture means nothing but darkish, shadow-casting, bloated and fortress-like colossal buildings. It has nothing to do with any vegetable. Simply take the "Nachtschatten" literally. |
