Die Kosten dieser Zonen werden von XX getragen. Der Toilettenbereich ist gemäss vereinbartem Wartebereichstandard seitens Flughafen auszustatten.

I thought this was simple at first, but I'm having trouble finding something in EN. Any help appreciated.

My suggestion applies only if a sand-like material was actually used, as opposed to tiles or similar.

We couldn't find out what material they were actually gonna use (tile etc.) so I went with the artificial sand. Thanks to everyone....

'artificial' does capture the nature of the substance; to my ear 'synthetic' seems more specific to the technical context.
