German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Architecture / log building construction
German term or phrase: Setzluft
This is in an article on log house construction. The sentence follows:

Bedingt durch das kalkulierte Setzmaß von 2 Zentimetern je Höhenmeter baute man sämtliche Anschlüsse, Türen und Fenster getrennt, mit Spielraum und ausreichender {Setzluft} ein.

I have seen "slump" as translation for "Setzmaß," but could not find "Setzluft."
Any help would be appreciated!

settling space
Explanation:
A term I found in the context of traditional log home building.

Setzluft oder auch "Sinkmaß":

Traditional log houses tend to "settle" over time, potentially wreaking havoc with doors and windows. Therefore, they are carefully engineered with hidden spaces above doors and windows, so that the logs can settle without destroying the openings.
