The Little Reaper's Song Explanation: Shumann's piano pieces are dedicated to children. Aldough there are numerous hits on Googel for the above proposed translation (Reaper's Song), there are as many for "The Little Reaper's Song". I think it suits better in the context. 1. Edition Peters: Robert Schumann - Album for the Young, ... ... Urtexte, Robert Schumann Album for the Young, Op. 68 ... 18. Schnitterliedchen The Little Reaper's Song - Chanson du moissonneur. 2.House at Zwickau, and published in facsimile in 1956 (Edition Peters, Leipzig), which is recognized as the authoritative edition by reason of Schumann's indications. The state of the composition seems conformably definite, although numerous erasures, alterations and corrections point to the fact that the composer was continuously active in the matter, and that even after he work was published, there were still points to be settled. The editor Georg Eismann makes a note of all the Important details in his accompanying text. Here, it needs only to be mentioned that in many cases Clara's handwriting, and in Ländliches Lied (Rustic Song) and Schnitterliedchen (The Little Reaper's Song), that of Schumann's grandson Ferdinand, are indicated.
