Es geht um eine Beschreibung in einem Patent:

Sobald die Drehzahllinien der einzelnen Gänge, die im Diagramm als Strahlen C, 1, 2, ..., eingezeichnet sind, die obere oder die untere Schaltgrenze erreichen, soll der Schaltvorgang eingeleitet werden. Das Feld zwischen den beiden Schaltgrenzen wird als *Schaltfläche* F bezeichnet.

Überall lautet die Übersetzung entweder "command button" oder "button" oder "shift key", usw. usw.
Mir scheint es, dass dieser Begriff nicht hier hinein passt, und denke an "shifting surface" oder "shift area", nur gibt es wenig Ähnliches bei Google.

That's what I would use, but you are right, the only semi-fitting hits I get are for electronics - but that may be close enough - the German word isn't exactly common, either.
