Explanation:
I would translate it something like this:

"At the location where the corpse was discovered, biological trace evidence was the only indication..."

- or -

"At the location where the corpse was discovered, evidence from biological traces was the only indication..."

Here's why:

Although technically, "microtraces" is not incorrect, it is redundant. "Traces" already means "tiny" or "micro." "Microtraces" is a pleonasm. It's like the classic English triple-pleonasm: "completely surrounded on all four sides." "Surrounded" already means "completely." "Surrounded" already means "on all four sides." "Surrounded" suffices, as does "trace."

Ever since English's rise to world preeminence, the frequency of such pleonasms has skyrocketed. Pleonasms are bad English, pure and simple.

Checking the Internet for "microtraces," we find it very seldom used:

(Since this is dealing with biological evidence, we can rule out inorganic terminology.)

Google -> Advanced Search -> English Language Only -> Contains the word -> "microtraces" without the words -> "paint cosmetics salts ammonium tool tools neutrons fiber fibers ferent elavak pottery titanium materials vynil mercury drugs Fe glass"

Results: 25 English pages. Of the 25 citations, 8 are repeats, and 5 are not in English. That leaves 12 occurrences total on the Internet via Google.

Checking the Internet for "biological traces" including the word "evidence" (an added limitation not imposed on "microtraces" above), we find it in general use:

Google -> Advanced Search -> English Language Only -> with the Exact Phrase -> "biological trace" with the Word(s) -> "evidence"

Results: 18,100 English pages.

If we check for "biological" "traces" "evidence" and, in addition, force exclusion of all citations with the word "micro," we find:

Results: 16,300,000 English Pages

(Sixteen Million Pages. In contrast, "microtraces" and "evidence" turn up a mere 116 citations.)

hence my translation of microscopic traces..... But really not sure.

disagree Brett Richards, B.S., M.B.A.: Though technically not incorrect, microtraces is redundant. Traces already means tiny or micro. It's a pleonasm. It's also very seldom used. "Microtraces & evidence" -> 214 pgs on Google. In contrast, "biological traces & evidence" -> 16,300,000 pgs.
