German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-) / Anatomy/Histology - liver
German term or phrase: Sinus Herde
Hi!

I am proofreading a pathological-anatomical evaluation of a liver biopsy and I'm not sure if the translator made a mistake or if I just misunderstood the source. I usually have a good understanding of anatomy but this is quite detailed. Perhaps the source needs a couple of commas to be clearer... or I just misinterpreted it.

The source text:

"Leberbiopsat zeigt bei erhaltener Grundarchitektur in den Sinus Herde einer extramedullären Blutbildung."

What I understand (in normal English) is that the tissue sample, where the architecture of the sinus is not damaged, (sinus = cavitity, so I suppose it means that the structure of the hepatic lobules is intact), has some parts in which blood is produced (extramedullär=outside of the bone marrow).

I believe the translator has taken "Sinus Herde" as a term:

Original translation:

"The patient indicates extramedullary hematopoiesis with retained fundamental architecture in the sinus foci."

I just want to make sure I am right before I go and point this out to the translator. If not, is sinus foci the correct translation for Sinus Herde? (IS there such a thing in the first place?!) I'm confused...

I'm basing my thoughts mainly on this page:

Thanks!
