German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Botany / Brochure
German term or phrase: Versuchsgarten
"Um die Wirksamkeit seines Enzym-Konzentrats eindrucksvoll unter Beweis zu stellen, versprühte der Biochemiker sie - in stark verdünnter Form mit Wasser - alle zwei Monate auf die wachsenden Früchte in seinem Versuchsgarten hinter dem Firmengelände."

From a brochure about a sort of "wonder drug". I'm not sure about the translation of "Versuchsgarten" and can't find a verifiable translation for it anywhere. Is it a test garden? Trial garden? Experimental garden? Something else kind of garden? Anybody know for sure? TIA for your help.

trial beds
Explanation:
These are what the RHS has in its gardens at Wisley. It's a huge area set aside for trialling certain species and presumably techniques. I suppose you could call the whole area "trial grounds"

I went with Jenny and John and called it a "trial garden", especially after finding an entry in Wikipedia for that exact term. Many thanks everyone - appreciate your assistance.

experimental garden

Explanation:
That's how I would call it, but I am not absolutely sure, as I am not a native English speaker. However, the source is British:

agree  Stephen Reader: Know mugwumping doesn't help, but with some fine adjustmts dep. on how official this plot/garden is [see @ :-) ], we seem to be spoilt for choice. Irrationally, 'exp'mtal g.' rings to me a bit less offic. than 'research g.'

agree  Stephen Reader: RHS and I'm reasonably sure, the BBC's Gardeners' Question Time. But you might opt for one of the other two suggs. if the whole garden, not just a section, is devoted to tests.

agree  Stephen Reader: Though sth. tells me (why?) that the garden would tend to be *formally* dedicated to research to be called that. The other options above seem less formal (which might go with "HIS" Versuchsgarten as opposed to, e.g., "DEM (Firmen-)"
