should this be translated as thousand million (British)or as milliard as some British newspapers have adopted this European term.
I know it is a billion in American English but I need the British perspective on this

Britain has pretty much adopted the American million. I've never heard milliard used in British. Thousand million would be understood but is rarely used ...
