condensed Explanation: in the sense of zusammenfassen, bündlen, verdichten. In a very condensed form - in sehr gedrängter Form. I understand why you are not happy with the term abbreviated. Maybe condensed would be a better term, if that is meant. HTH |

balance sheet was contracted Explanation: Woywode, WB Rechnungslegung und Steuern, offers Bilanzverkürzung - balance sheet contraction which is also supported by the following source: Bilanzverkürzung = (ReW) Balance sheet contraction Bilanzverlängerung = (ReW) Balance sheet extension ... island.isl.uni-bremen.de/~huebsch/ah_bil_e.htm Apparently, a balance sheet contraction allows capital to be freed (mind you, I can barely balance my checkbook, so I'm definitely no financial genius). But see the following: Even with our aggressive share repurchases over the past year, our planned balance sheet contraction has enabled us to maintain a strong leverage ratio, which declined modestly to 6.2 percent from 6.4 percent in second quarter of 2000. Our leverage ratio and risk base capital ratios are well in excess of regulatory guidelines. At 5.22 percent, our net interest margin reached the highest levels since first quarter of 1998. In conjunction with our repurchase program, the exiting of our discounted leased receivable business, and our restructuring initiatives, we have been extremely successful in contracting our balance sheet allowing us to free up valuable capital. www.cfbx.com/investor_relations/conf_call.asp See if that works for you. Hope it helps! |

summary accounts or short term balance sheets Explanation: or just financial summaries or I just guess: perhaps to make it less risky or clear for everybody , they may shortened balance sheet submission period, for example quarterly to follow better, otherwise in a year there may be so great losses to "escape from" for some investors ? |

alternative Explanation: All the suggestions you've received so far may be on target, "eine verkürzte Bilanz" could definitely be a condensed or abridged balance sheet, or simply a reduced number of balance sheet accounts (or balance sheet accounting items). But for what it's worth I thought I'd add a different way of looking at this. Of course I may be completely off, but I'm thinking of Bilanz not so much in terms of a financial statement but instead as a process, and was thinking more along the lines of "streamlining the accounting (process)" Have a look at the article below and see if it fits your context: eCFO: Financial-Chain Management, December 2000 ... integrated with the accounting systems which ... the physical supply chain before the ... and the benefits will be ... of information transparency and collaboration ... The article should be interesting even beyond this question. Hope it helps! www.ecfonet.com/articles/al_financial_chain_management.html |

Investment in working capital was reduced Explanation: I think this is the sense rather than the legal "abbreviated accounts" although of course the balance sheet footings reduce along with working capital! the liberation of tied-up capital (in non-productive stocks) mentioned and the general effect of SCM speak for this interpretation. |

balance sheet contraction Explanation: This is not about the form of the balance sheet and not necessarily about the number of items but the balance sheet sum (total assets). A contraction means that total assets are lower. The positive side effect: Calculate ratios and you get better results: debt ratio, ... own experience as auditor |
