German to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / management training seminars
German term or phrase:Ideenspeicher
Context is training material for the training of seminar facilitators. Describing the benefits of using whiteboards/flipcharts:
Einsatzgebiete: Ideenspeicher, Themenauflistung, Erarbeitung von Themen
Brainstorming memory bank? or just something like "for keeping track of ideas/concepts" Has anyone come across this before in a similar context?
I think the word "Ideenspeicher" shouldn't be translated too literally here, as the author was probably just looking for another word to describe the process of brainstorming with the help of flipcharts etc. In German I would have said "Ideensammlung und Themenauflistung...", thus I'd say: collection of ideas and topics.
First and foremost, Speicher/speichern means storage/to store - meaning you want to go backand access the ideas you stored. However, you do not keep notes that you record on a whiteboard or flipchart after a meeting, you delete them, and any ideas recorded for later would have to be stored somewhere else, using a different medium that could serve a idea(s) bank. So, to me, the term "Ideenspeicher" seems rather inept here. But it could work as a "temporary" idea bank, or a medium to "store" ideas from which topics/subjects and their treatment are then being developed. To "record" is too weak, in my opinion, to get the meaning of "Ideen"speicher" across.
