German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / Competition
German term or phrase: anderseits
Context:

This is talking about the requirement for availability of the same equipment/products for several years. I don't quite understand the logic here. To me, the point following "anderseits" [sic] seems to be part of the preceding problem, NOT the opposite or a positive effect rather than a problem.

not 'but' but 'and'
Explanation:
The problem for the manufacturer is exacerbated on the one hand (FIRSTLY) by the fact that appliances and systems can no longer be sold at the old price and that sales numbers fall and, on the other (SECONDLY), by the greater pressure on costs from the new appliances developed/marketed by competitors

I can see your argument about reverse logic but would assume that the first part of the sentence refers to something that precedes - but what goes before ?

on the other hand

Explanation:
This certainly is the counterpart to "einersets" - i. on the one hand ... and on the other hand ...

Notes to answerer
Asker: Please read my question and the note with my draft translation in the discussion box. It doesn't make any sense for this to mean "on the other hand" here, as the point mentioned thereafter is a reason for what precedes, and NOT an opposite effect.

Asker: i.e. it is the "weiterer Kostendruck durch neue Geräte von Wettbewerbern" which results in that fact that products "nicht mehr zum alten Preis absetzbar sind und die Stückzahlen zurückgehen".

(but) then again, there is

Explanation:
Yes, I agree with you, David: the point following "anderseits" seems to be part of the preceding problem, NOT the opposite.

Using "...(but) then again, there is..." would help you circumvent the problem, hopefully.
