Law/Patents - Business/Commerce (general) / employment contract
German term or phrase: nach Kündigung freizustellen
I'm not getting the idea of the whole sentence. This is the part of the contract called "Termination of Employment," including for retirement, and the last clause is:

Die Gesellschaft ist berechtigt, den Arbeitnehmer jederzeit, insbesondere nach erfolgter Kündigung, unter Anrechnung des noch anstehenden Urlaubs bei Fortzahlung der ihm zustehenden Vergütung von der Arbeitsleistung freizustellen.

My draft doesn't make much sense:
"The Company is entitled to release the Employee at any time, especially after termination, taking into account the remaining vacation allowance, with continued payment of the remuneration due to him."

The employment is already terminated, so why is the company entitled to "release" the employee? Or does freistellen mean something else here?

TIA!

release/relieve from her/his (work) duties
Explanation:
very common for managers who are privy to confidential information...so basically continue payment until the contract actually terminates but let them sit at home and apply for new jobs or enjoy life and relax

agree  Steffen Walter: Yes. Termination becomes effective not at the date of receipt of written notice but at the end of the associated notice period.

agree  transatgees: This refers to what is colloquially called "sent on gardening leave". I usually translate it as "are releived of their duties and required to leave the employer's premises.

agree  Paul Skidmore: with Steffen. In Susan's sentence I suggest "especially after notice to terminate has been given" or words to that effect.
