German term or phrase: Akquisition
Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,
es geht um die Beschreibung der Tätigkeit des Geschäftsführers einer Baufirma. Zu seinen Aufgaben gehört die "Akquisiton von Großprojekten", d.h. er soll Aufträge "an Land ziehen". "Acquire" und "acquisiton" sind hier falsche Freunde...was hält ihr von einer Übersetzung rund um "bidding"? Thanks for your help!

winning

Explanation:
You can also talk about "winning" projects.

"As it was, we had a productive lunch and in the process he felt good about me, my interest in him, and his work. In the end we proceeded to win a major project."
http://www.smps.org/mrc/articles-html/communicationskills.ht...

I wouldn't necessarily say "bid" - that would be "bieten" and we don't know if they have to bid on these particular projects.

agree  Steffen Walter: winning major contracts // ADD: Well, for me it's coffee - and I'm just putting the finishing touches to a translation of a tax audit report (Betriebsprüfung). That sound familiar?

-> If you use it as a noun it will sound translated, if you use it as a verb it will work. "his duties included winning major (or even key) projects, blah, blah, blah"

agree  sylvie malich: I'm only on my second cup.

to win contracts for major projects

Explanation:
I say "no" to bidding because that is simply putting in an offer (which may or may not be accepted).

to secure a contract (as above) is also good
