German term or phrase: Versetzung
I have a hazy idea about the following sentence but am wondering if anyone has a solid translation suggestion for Versetzung in the following context:

"Nicht ausreichende Leistungen koennen die Versetzung gefaehrden." (German Gymnasium)

Insufficient performance can jepordize the __.

I know report cards are easy but would not like to make a foolish mistake, so thank you in advance for your help.

repeat academic year

Explanation:
Pupils may have to repeat the academic year if grades are unsatisfactory

In this context, 'versetzen' literally means to be moved up; I think the sentence sounds better, however, if reworded (repeat academic year = nicht versetzt)

agree  Steffen Walter: But would you really use "academic year" outside a university/college context?

neutral  British Diana: It is not the academic year which might have to be repeated - in the next academic year the pupil might have to repeat the class he or she is in now. In our day it was called "staying down a year"

progression to the next grade/class/level

Explanation:
I'd be inclined to go for "may" for "können" (and watch the spelling of "jeopardize"!)

endanger the transfer

Explanation:
Example from the below link:

Das Zeugnis erhält die Bemerkung "Versetzung gefährdet", wenn die Leistungsentwicklung des Schülers zur Sorge Anlass gibt;

The remark "in danger of failing" is entered if the learners' performances are precarious
