neutral  David Williams: "R-phrases" is short for "risk phrases" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_R-phrases so both are correct, but if the German abbreviates, why not abbreviate in English too?

  -> Matter of preference, really, no need to abbreviate just because the German does. I think that the full term is more common while in German the abbreviated term is primarily used.
