neutral  Martin Clowes: I agree, but think it needs a hyphen
4 mins
  -> Not necessarily, it's a matter of taste and also if it's US (with hyphen) or UK (without hyphen) English.

neutral  Steffen Walter: ?? I've always thought it was the other way around (i.e. that US English adopted a slightly more relaxed attitude towards hyphenation).
3 hrs
  -> That may have been the case, but hyphens are less and less used in British English while I've seen its use increase in US English (but that's only my observation).

agree  Harald Moelzer (medical-translator): Beides möglich: mit oder ohne Bindestrich
4 hrs
  -> Danke, Harald.

Ion-exchange resins are widely used in different separation, purification, and decontamination processes. The most common examples are water softening and water purification. In many cases ion-exchange resins were introduced in such processes as a more flexible alternative to the use of natural or artificial zeolites.
