"Marker und vorbereitete Proben ... vorsichtig in die entsprechenden Geltaschen durch Unterschichtung des Laufpuffers einbringen." Part of a description of a process for determining protein content of a substance. I get the idea of what it means, but am not sure of how to express this elegantly.

is the term I'm familiar with, e.g. when H2SO4 is added to chloroform in such a way that the liquids don't mix and the H2SO4 sinks to the bottom of the test receptacle.
