I had a good look at diethylpentAnamide too. But the German literature on the subject, allbeit limited, consistently uses diäthylpentEnamid or diethylpentEnamid. Synonyms Diethylallylacetamid, Pentenamid according to

I have no idea if this is the same molecule as pentAnamide. The drug was used in Germany as a sedative-hypnotic and was apparently good for suicide.
It is true that there are a number of pentAnamides used as sed-hyps and anti-epileptics (e.g. Valpromide).

diethylpentamide should not be found in the literature simply because it is not a correct name (according to IUPAC nomenclature rules. What could be meant is "diethylpentanamide"... it's not a matter of the German name not having an equivalent in English. In English, there is not diethylpentamide...the pattern for naming is
........ alkanamide, not alkamide...

thank you all for your discussion entries. I have been researching this term in my literature and through several search engines on the internet and didn't come up with anything... @Cilian I know it has nothing to do with diet. It is a compound found in drugs such as Betadorm or Novo-Dolestan. :) I just thought that there would be a translation for all existing chemical compounds. I think your suggestion of diethylpentamide would make the most sense. Thank you again. :)

The correct spelling is diethylpentenamide. This drug seems to exist only in Germany.
