Vorlauf = first runnings, forerunnings?? Sounds odd to me. Is there a better term?

The first runnings of displaced spirit were discarded. Collection was begun when the filtrate, after neutralizing, gave a detectable precipitate with saturated aqueous picric acid solution, and was continued until this reaction was no longer given.
