German term or phrase: probe kneten
Greetings,

This is something which came up in "Alisa – Folge deinem Herzen".

Apologies in advance for a lack of proper context, but I think that Alisa and her on-and-off lover were talking about sounding someone out or trying something tentatively and seeing what came of it.

One of them suggested something which, to me, sounded like "probe kneten".

All the best,

Simon

put out the feelers
Explanation:
From the context provided, I think the " alien" connection would work ok here. It is a bit of slang but if I want to get to know someone I have to make the first approach.Other suggestions are also appreciated.

-> I would suggest " die Fühler ausstrecken" as a German phrase as one cannot really knead people !!

Reference: tentative definition of probekneten

Reference information:
Don’t know about Alisa, love the idea of a new word though.. Following philgoddard’s pointer, this is what I make of the word:

probekneten. To test or to sample (‘probieren’) something that can be kneaded (e.g. wax, play dough); involves the action of kneading (‘kneten’). Also, testing what it is like to knead something.

Testing the quality of play dough:

Testing what it’s like to bake:

Masseur offers a sample of his kneading technique:

Tesing the quality of a car wax product:

Finally, a rather crude testing of a woman's breast:
