German term or phrase:wesentliche Dinge
I've got a few points I want to polish up on a film pitch - a Lesbian love story starring a genetically manipulated cow(skeptics, be damned!)
"XX ist in erster Linie eine Liebesgeschichte, aber es geht auch um wesentliche Dinge, wie das gestörte Verhältnis von Mensch und Natur und den Verlust von spirituellen Werten"
So far, I have the following:
"XX is first and foremost a love story, but it also addresses ##wesentliche issues such as spitirual decline and our disturbed relationship to nature."
Can't find the right word for "wesentlich" ("general"?) - and I'm not happy with the last bit either, to be honest.
Explanation: Dictionary translations but would fit here.

Point taken - though "our disturbed relationship to nature" when translated back would become "unser gestrtes Verhltnis zur Natur" and I wasn't sure how to convey the "Verhltnis von Mensch und Natur" bit.
Whether we like it or not, the term "man" (for Menschheit) is indeed part of common usage in the English language. I can tell you, however, that this word is absolutely out of the question here...
and I see Kurt is thinking along the same lines as me (I was thinking: "issues of a bigger scope", but phrased differently), but i must admit I like "fundamental" ;-)
