German term or phrase: Kontroll- und Steuerungscomputer
I am not sure what type of computer this should be.
Checking/monitoring and directing/controlling?
I am translating an explanation about how a condensation particle counter functions.
"Das Messinstrument besteht aus vier Bestandteilen:
Sensor, mikroprozessorgestützte Signalverarbeitungselektronik, Strömungssystem und externem Kontroll- und Steuerungscomputer. "
So far I have:
"The measurement instrument is composed of four parts: sensor, microprocessor-supported signal processing electronics, flow system and external monitoring and controlling computer"
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

agree  Alan Frankel: I agree, but since the question as asked doesn't include "externem" (except in the context), the translation should really omit it, too. This is only an issue if the term makes its way into a glossary, however.
