German term or phrase: Belegen
The context is a Planning tool in an ERP product and the specific sentence is as follows:

"Eine Position mit der Dauer 5 Stunden, zwischen deren frühestem und spätestem Termin 20 Stunden Kapazität zur Verfügung steht, belegt die Ressource in diesem Zeitraum zu 25 %."

"Belegung" as in "Grobbelegung" below is translated as "assignment" however I can't seem to work this into the "belegt die Ressource in diesem Zeitraum zu 25 %" part of the above sentence....

I'm also including the following sentence for context, it appears just before the above sentence:

"Verteilt man die Auslastung einer Ressource durch eine Position prozentual auf den Zeitraum zwischen frühestem und spätestem Termin der Position, erhält man die Grobbelegung der Ressource (siehe auch Grobbelegungsgebirge (APS)."

This just seems to fit a little better than occupy to me in both cases. Maybe your other context would rule this out, but for the two examples you have here seems to me 'cover' as noun and verb.
