Belegen

German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Computers: Software
German term or phrase: Belegen
The context is a Planning tool in an ERP product and the specific sentence is as follows:

"Eine Position mit der Dauer 5 Stunden, zwischen deren frühestem und spätestem Termin 20 Stunden Kapazität zur Verfügung steht, belegt die Ressource in diesem Zeitraum zu 25 %."

"Belegung" as in "Grobbelegung" below is translated as "assignment" however I can't seem to work this into the "belegt die Ressource in diesem Zeitraum zu 25 %" part of the above sentence....

I'm also including the following sentence for context, it appears just before the above sentence:

"Verteilt man die Auslastung einer Ressource durch eine Position prozentual auf den Zeitraum zwischen frühestem und spätestem Termin der Position, erhält man die Grobbelegung der Ressource (siehe auch Grobbelegungsgebirge (APS)."

If you need any further context, just let me know.
Many thanks in advance for your help :-)

occupy

Explanation:
Perhaps you could turn it around to say something like "is occupied by the resource at a level of 25 %", or possibly "25% of the capacity of...is occupied by the resource during this period", or similar.

Apologies for the delay, but I have since got clarification from the customer and in this particular instance, "belegen" means "utilize", as in "the line utilizes 25% of the resource's capacity available for this period". Many thanks for your help though! And apologies for the delay in marking!

  -> Thanks.

neutral  Ken Cox: it's the other way around: the item ('Position') occupies the resource

-> Your're quite right, of course - I was focussing too heavily on the verb!

cover(s)

Explanation:
This just seems to fit a little better than occupy to me in both cases. Maybe your other context would rule this out, but for the two examples you have here seems to me 'cover' as noun and verb.

This is pretty close and definitely preferable to "occupy/occupies", however the customer has since clarified that in this particular instance, "belegen" means "utilize", as in "the line utilizes 25% of the resource's capacity available for this period". Many thanks for your help though! And apologies for the delay in marking!
