Hi all

This term appears in a user guide for an HR computer programme:

'Die sogenannte Vorschaltmaske fragt bestimmte Informationen ab, die anschließend im Schreiben berücksichtigt werden.'

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Explanation:
As I understand this, the sentence is about HR data that has to be entered in the system first, before a letter (possibly serial letter) can be created that pulls some of that data (e.g. name, salary level ...) from the system. If I got that wrong, forget my answer. :-)

"Vorschaltmaske" seems not a very common term for this, maybe "vorgestellte Eingabemaske" is what they are trying to say. I would leave off the "sogenannte" and just say "The preceding input mask requires certain data to be entered which...". If you do want to give it a "so-called" name, maybe "pre-connected input mask" would be an option (although I can't support this suggestion with any references). I found one PDF (below) in which "preceding input mask" was used in a similar context.

Explanation:
as English expression for "Einstiegsbildschirm"... which means approx the same... well... in SAP... you navigate there via a menu entry of transaction code and normally enter search criterea or the like into the initial screen to either retrieve a certain type of data record fron the database or start creating a new record...

Just a guess though...
