Clarification request(s) and response
Hilary Davies: 9:40pm Oct 2, 2005: Hello! Do you happen to know if a copy is left on the server or not? -
Languageman: 9:51pm Oct 2, 2005: @Hilary: Not sure how I to respond to your ammended comment, hence I put it here. When I worked a software engineer we never dreamt of removing something from the server! Q: "Have you run that test?", A; "No, I´ll have to pull some data off the server". -

copy
Explanation:
'Copy' could also fit, depending on the wider context.

For example:

agree BrigitteHilgner: In my opinion, "abziehen" quite obviously means "to copy".

neutral Hilary Davies: "copy" implies that a copy is left on the server, which isn't implied in abziehen, is it//Now you see, i used to work for a server company and when we said "pull the data off the server", it WAS deleted ;-) But I agree, we need more context.

-> Not sure actually, you might be right, without more context we´ll never know I guess. My opinion in this case is that ´abziehen´is used in the sense of ´pull off´, as in ´pull the data off the server please´, in which case it is certainly not deleted.

Explanation:

Ein Negativ abziehen, einen Abzug machen: To make a print.
