Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks
German term or phrase: Redundanzen aufbauen
Context:

"Durch den modularen Systemaufbau und die Verbindung der Server über das 100 MBit/s schnelles Ethernet-LAN, lassen sich sowohl Redundanzen aufbauen als auch Prozesse zur Systemskalierung auf weitere Server auslagern."

I am not too sure about the second half of this sentence. I'm thinking along the lines of "...to permit redundancy as well as to relocate processes to other servers for system scaling."

* Sentence or paragraph where the term occurs: See above
* Document type: User manual
* Target audience: System administrators/planners
* Country and dialect: Germany (corporate, no dialect.)

sorry, see the top Google hit on the term "build redundancies" from the University of Toronto. http://www.cs.toronto.edu/cser/header.html

Redundancies enhance compatibility in terms of software, or the failsafe functionality of a physical system. The Wiki entry I posted explains it. As such, the choice between building / establishing / extend / include etc. etc. redundancies is not the biggest issue, but rather, fact that they are included deliberately.

See discussion, opolt's comments and mine.

Excerpt from my comment: In many ways the precise wording is unimportant, it's just the idea that there are additional systems built in to ensure prevention of failure.

To build in redundancies should be the glossary entry for this term.

agree  opolt: Not sure about the plural -- but yes, basically that's it.

  -> Thanks, opolt, for your helpful definition, too. I've seen both redundancies and redundant systems, or fallback systems even. I think to a large extent it's the concept rather than terminology that's vital here. The Asker may have his own ideas in context

agree  Languageman: Yes, but I'd prefer "build in" over "build" on it's own, as per your original discussion entry. I've no problem with the plural though, sounds like there is potentially more than one type of redundancy under discussion.

agree  Jaime Hyland: "to build redundancies in(to ...)" the plural substantive is pretty standard
