I think you have the meaning absolutely right, but the translation of Gesamtbild is tricky, isn't it? My interpretation, and I am no expert, is that you should apply these basic principles and standardised modelling so that there is consistency across the whole...(project/package/presenation?) making it easier to make corrections at a later date.

This is undoubtedly particularly important if more than one person is involved, as it ensures consistency in both process and presentation.
