German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
German term or phrase: Geschosswechsellinie
Source sentence: "Die Geodatenprozessierung wertete insbesondere die Gebäudegrundrisse einschließlich der Geschosswechsellinien aus, um ein höhendifferenziertes, feingliedriges Blockmodell zu erhalten"

Anyone have any ideas? It sounds like lines indicating the positions of the various floors, but I must admit I'm grasping at straws on this one.

As ever, any help (especially an explanation!) would be greatly appreciated.

Vielleicht hilft das schon ein Eckchen weiter...?

I'd rather go for "floor space" (Geschoß) and something like "dimension lines" or "limiting lines" to render "Wechsellinien"

Floor transition lines

Explanation:
A guess. My first thoughts:
(1) These are lines that are included on the floor plans;
(2) They are needed to create a block model
What is needed to create a (finely differentiated) block model? The floor plans, floor heights (Is that what is being referred to? Lines on model showing transitions from floor to floor?), and "locating" lines (Is that what these are?) showing where one floor is located above another (floors might have different geometries, so there may be a need for lines defining where an upper floor meets the floor below it.)
But I'm grasping at straws too here. Not much info on the web, at least not for the German term.

I like the Internet reference given by Dorothea. The lines show where the sections of one floor are located above another floor.

Part of the problem might be that in conventional architectural drawing packages such lines are not used or needed. Instead grid lines with letters and numbers identify how the different layers (floor plans or sections) match up vertically. But the geopositioning program probably uses a simpler method than that used in creating the layers of detailed architectural drawings. The lines show where the next higher layer of blocks are positioned.

I think we have the concept; we just need the right term now!
