German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering / internal carpentry
German term or phrase: Vorhangsbretter
Part of a specification for interior carpentry in apartments in Switzerland
Vorhangsbretter Wohnen, Zimmer:
Deckenfries aus Spanplatte Fichte furniert mit 2 mm Dickkanten vorne und seitlich, sauber an Wande angepasst
Friesbreiten ca. 210 mm

This word seems to be Swiss German (?). I first thought it was a wooden interior window blind, but if this is right, I cannot see why under this heading it goes straight into describing ceiling mouldings
Can anyone assist?

English translation:top boards / pelmets
Explanation:
I found this on a Swiss website:

Allgemeine Schreinerarbeiten
Vorhangsbretter mit zwei Vorhangsschienen; 30 cm auf beiden Seiten der Fensternischen überstehend, an der Betondecke befestigt mit Blende und Schattenfugen. Simsbretter zwischen den Fensternischen.

It appears that your "Vorhangsbretter" are mounted to the ceiling to hang curtains, perhaps using a track system, as in the situation described above.

See "top board": http://www.window-treatments-made-easy.com/hang-bay-window.h...

There are probably other regional names for such boards.

Or the "Vorhangsbretter" are used to hide the fastenings upon which the curtains are hung:

Webster's
pelmet = a decorative cornice or valance at the head of a window or doorway, used to cover the fastenings from which curtains are hung

It would of course help if we had a photo of your "Vorhangsbretter".

Hope that helps.

"pelmet boards" would be another possibility:

agree  Ingeborg Gowans: I checked similar websites, but couldn't find the term; it was "on the tip of my tongue" I have a mental picture, but that's not good enough:) I am taking a break from my Java Script text...
