German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
German term or phrase: Vorkopfbauweise
"Zwei Teilabschnitte mit Längen von ca. 1.600 m auf der Hauptbrücke und von ca. 900 m auf der Abzweigbrücke werden zum Schutz ökologisch besonders wertvoller Landschaftsbereiche in *Vorkopfbauweise* errichtet. Die Bauweise zeichnet sich durch den Verzicht auf Baustraßen aus, die komplette Andienung auch für die Unterbauten erfolgt über den bereits fertig gestellten Teil des Überbaus."

This is a modern technique by which bridges (and possibly other structures, e.g. roads, etc) are built with access to the building site solely along the track of the structure under construction, primarily used to avoid disturbing ecologically sensitive surroundings. Has anyone got any better suggestions for this than "head-on", "head first" or perhaps "single track" or "limited access" construction?

TIA, David.

Note to reference poster
Asker: Thanks Audrey, but the translation suggested in your reference of "end tipping method" works only for embankment construction. I need something more generic, or else suitable for bridge construction.

neutral  asptech: I was not sure at first about what characterized this special form of scaffold-free construction, but then I read an interesting article in "Brückenbau", February 2009, page 19, with a detailed description of the method..
