(translation help for this phrase would be appreciated and is there a word missing from the sentence?)
The exterior of the building is dotted with small terraces, some face Yael Street and others overlook the corner of King Solomon Street. The terraces encircle the building projecting a ring of shade around it.

Though I must admit it is rather difficult to visualise just what is going on - how these terraces are situated in relation to the façade, but perhaps that is evident from the larger text or, even better, you might have a picture.

Jutta, the sentence reads 'Beeindruckend sind die Terrassen, die...' I really don't believe my translation takes away from the image at all.

in the sentence that you quote later it should read "gelegen" , not "belegen"? fight?

Explanation: Der deutsche Satz muss so lauten:
Beeindruckend sind die umlaufend anmutenden Terrassen, die - hinter der geschwungenen Fassade gelegen - Sonnenlicht von Osten, Süden und Westen in die Wohnungen holen.
Hier mein Versuch:
An impressive feature are the terraces which appear to wrap around the building and – situated behind the winding facade – allow the sunlight to flood in from east, south, and west.

@ Helen:
I don't know where best to respond to your question, hope this is the right place.
It's kind of difficult to answer, a question of nuances really. In the German "Beeindruckend sind die Terrassen...", what is really meant (IMHO) is that the whole ensemble is impressive: the fact they have wrap-around terraces, the light-flooded rooms, the curved/winding facade.... The sentence sort of paints a picture. In your translation, the terraces seem to have moved to the center of things; I almost get an impression of bigness, or at least grandeur. The same would happen, by the way, if the German sentence started with "Beeindruckende Terrassen". But maybe it is a personal thing - it will be interesting to see how others perceive this.
