Kiess ist mit sz geschrieben +
schicht. Kies ist mir bekannt aber nie von Kiess gehört.

Thanks a million again, Tom! And that's right. It can only be Gitterformsteine in this context and its not even a typo but just a bad fax print!...I found a couple more "G" that look like "C".
