Extract from a description of a friction test carried out on a piston:

Bei diesem Reibungsversuch wird die geschwindigkeitsabhängige Reibkraft FR (v) ermittelt. Dafür wird m = konstant gewählt (mKolben + mStange) und über verschiedene Drosselstellungen die Geschwindigkeit reguliert. Die Belastung erfolgt durch den Gegendruck p2. Zum Abgleichen des Meßsystems wird der Kolben in die untere Position gebracht und zuvor beide Druckleitungen (p1 und p2) vom Druck entlastet. Direkt vor Beginn dieser Prüfung durchfährt der Prüfling 10 Doppelhübe. Die Abluftdrossel (11 U) wird für die 1. Messung vollständig geöffnet. In Abstufungen von zunächst 1 Umdrehung bzw. ab 7 Umdrehungen mit einer ½ Umdrehung wird die Drossel zugedreht (Tabelle 4). Vor Beginn der Prüfung findet eine Leckageüberprüfung (Kap. 7) statt. Tritt Leckage auf so wird die weitere Prüfung abgebrochen bzw. bei keiner Leckage die Prüfung fortgesetzt.
