German term or phrase: Reifeprüfungszeugnis
Context: Austrian school system

The "Reifeprüfungszeugnis" is issued by a "Höhere technische Bundeslehranstalt".

Explanation:
'diploma' or 'graduation certificate'

issued by a 'Vocational School for Higher Learning' you would call it in the US. Vocational schools in the US are Berufsschulen. Of course, in reality, it's probably a technical college (or junior college or preparatory college, basically all the same), a prerequisite for taking university entrance exams

disagree  Hilary Davies Shelby: "A" Level certificates can only be issued by English schools - we dont even have them in Scotland! ;-) You would have to say something like "school-leaving certificates equivalent to the English "A"-Level certificate" - but I think its more college-level

Explanation:
Mein Maturazeugnis wurde in England in ein B.S. Civil Engineerig umgewandelt. Die Reifeprüfung an einer berufsbildenden höheren Schule hat mit der herkömmlichen Reifeprüfung nur den Namen gemeinsam - es entspricht aber dem Collegeabschluss! Dise Schulen sind Gymnasien mit einer spezialisierten Berufsausbildung - darum ist hier 'school-leaving-exam' nicht der richtige Ausdruck - B.S. entspricht eher!

Und noch ein ganz gravierender Unterschied: mit dem Reifeprüfungszeugnis einer HTL erwerbe ich das Recht den Titel \'Ingenieur\' zu führen - bei einem normalen Gymnasium gibt es das nicht.
