"(to be) able to bargain/negotiate/conduct business negotiations (in Chinese/English/German) Explanation: I ran into this term a while back in discussions with German customers who were talking about important attributes needed for their jobs as key account managers for an oil-multi. They explained what they meant by the term as follows: Someone who is "verhandlungssicher" can carry out the negations and reach the desired result (push through a price increase, achieve more favorable delivery or payment terms, sell the product, etc.). If a German says someone is "verhandlungssicher" it is very, very positive. Apparently, not too many people have this quality. I know I don't. I asked if it meant that they always get the order. The answer was "No", but the person who was "verhandlungssicher" knew before the negations started whether s/he would get the order or not. ????????? That made no sense to me, so I gave up. At any rate, they did not appear to think it was only a language skill attribute because they were not talking about any particular language or pair of languages. They seemed to feel it was more of knack for bargaining, knowing when to say what. I would not use this translation: http://www.hs-soft.com/English/e_Karriere_job_DE.htm Communicative, business fluent and assertive = kommunikativ, verhandlungssicher und durchsetzungsstark This site is better, but still not really strong enough: http://www.ceotronics.com/bewfrag.htm Sprachkenntnisse =language skills advanced working knowledge = verhandlungssicher You will probably need a phrase in English, depending on your context, something like: "to possess negotiating/bargaining competence/skill/talent (in Chinese/English/German)" or "bargaining/negotiation competence level (in Chinese/English/German)" or "(to be) able to bargain/negotiate/conduct business negotiations (in Chinese/English/German)" HTH Dan |
