German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / electrician's activities
German term or phrase: Dosenloch
Same text as my previous question. DIY is not my strong point! Any idea what Dosenlöcher might be here?

— Anbringen von Gitterträgern, Krallenklammern, Haltebügeln; Kanäle, Schlitze, Durchbrüche, **Dosenlöcher** fräsen, stemmen, schlagen,

General activities performed by electricians in the construction industry.

English translation:cutting holes for sockets
Explanation:
i.e. cutting holes, mostly in walls, for power outlets/sockets

the hole goes in the wall, the socket in the hole, and the plug in the socket :-)

dunno what it's called in electrician-speak, though

(and my reference below uses a different language altogether)

disagree  Richard Stephen: Why do Germans always call a 'hole' a 'bore'?

agree  Languageman: Sounda about right to me. 'recess' perhaps, instead of 'hole'? // 'posh'?!

-> thought about that, but dismissed it; too posh here :-)

agree  Richard Stephen: That's a good discriptive English equivalent. In Germany they install a 'box' (as in junction box) in which the socket or switch is later installed, but simply saying 'box' doesn't impart the meaning at all and 'box for sockets/switches' is cumbersome.

agree  Colin Rowe: Simple as that.
