German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / Lighting / Car lights or lamps
German term or phrase: Brenner
Context: Car lighting/lamps
Die (...) Konstruktion von "Brenner" und Sockel entspricht bei allen XXX Lampen der Erstausrüsterqualität.

So, I am unsure whether this is simply "burner" and base or is "Brenner" here the bulb? I know in oil lamps what a burner (and base) is, but never heard it in newer electrical lamps.
Thanks very much in advance.

  -> Danke.

agree  Cilian O'Tuama: maybe they're just distinguishing between the parts of a bulb, i.e. the "light element" and the base

disagree  translexIQ: there is no mention of "discharge". what if it is the old type filament bulb? I'd settle for "tube". Cilian O'Tuama also went in this direction even though he agreed.

  -> Well, "IQ", why don't you take the "official" version of Brenner, Gasentladungsröhre (Xenon), and realize while googling [brenner+gasentladungsröhre] that these are used synonymously.

burner

Explanation:
OR simply "lamp" - according to Langenscheidt Fachwörterbuch Technik und angewandte Wissenschaften (p. 1209) in the following entries (see books.google):

metal halide burner - HQI-Brenner; HQI-Lampe
metale halide lamp - Halogen-Metalldampf-Brenner.

What is meant in the present context is probably a very bright HQI-lamp.

A discharge tube or gas-filled tube is called "Gasentladungsröhre" in German.
